International Prize “Empedocle” for Human Sciences
The Pistorio Foundation is pleased to share that on December 2nd, our President Pasquale Pistorio was awarded by the Accademia of Mediterranean Studies, at the Pirandello Theater in Agrigento, Sicily, the International “Prize Empedocle” for Human Sciences, in memory of Paolo Borsellino, for the section “Humanity and Solidarity”, for the philanthropic work of the Pistorio Foundation, “which provides assistance in the field of health, nutrition and education, both through direct support and donations to children, especially in less-privileged regions around the world affected by wars, natural disasters and calamities.”
On this occasion, Pasquale was also bestowed the honour of a tree and Stele amongst the Garden of the Righteous of the World in the Valley of Temples, for the work of Pistorio Foundation in improving the lives of thousands of children in the world.
We are honoured that these awards are a recognition to the work we are doing, and thank all the volunteers, supporters, donors, partners, contributors, and board members, that have contributed to make this possible.

10th Anniversary Gala Dinner in Singapore
On the 26th of February, characterized by its colonial architecture and surrounded by lush greeneries, Alkaff Mansion Risorante provided an elegant setting for hosting 100 distinguished guests, many of them long term supporters of the foundation, to celebrate its 10th Anniversary.
The 10th Anniversary Gala dinner beautifully hosted by fashion journalist Rana Wehbe was a perfect occasion for Foundation’s Founder and President Pasquale Pistorio and Director Elena Pistorio to showcase many of its accomplishments and present ambitious and long term plans for the future which will benefit children in Thailand, Cambodia, Morocco, Burkina Faso.
Guests enjoyed a 3-course dinner especially created for that evening by Chef Simone Depalmas and homemade ice cream sponsored by Alfero Gelato. The evening was not only a culinary success but also a magical musical event. We were very fortunate to have a world class mezzo soprano Angela Hodgins and an internationally renowned pianist Kseniia Vohkmianina to perform that evening, gathered guests were enchanted by their repertoire ranging from Mozart to Gershwin.
Despite the elegant setting, culinary feast and world-class musical entertainment , the focus of the evening was kept on the foundation’s cause and mission and guest generously bid on the items during silent and live auction conducted by Gianluca Lionetto, which helped bring the total amount of funds raised that evening to nearly 50,000 SGD.
Organizing the 10th Anniversary Gala Dinner was a big undertaking and was only made possible wit the help of an awesome team of volunteers. Pistorio Foundation has been very privileged over the last 10 years to be supported by a wonderful group of volunteers and this event was no exception.

The Silver Tribute
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Ms. Eng Ai Tan and Ms. Teo Ching Ching, Directors of Palais Dance Studio, for choosing the Pistorio Foundation to be the beneficiary of the school’s 25th Anniversary Concert. “The Silver Tribute” was held on the 6th and 7th of June and was a great success artistically and financially. The impressive amount of S$ 20,552 raised that evening will go towards supporting the Foundation’ s work in Chiang Rai and education of underprivileged hill-tribe minority children.
Un minore su 4 ha ritardi nella crescita, con conseguenze irreversibili su suo sviluppo fisico e intellettivo

Oltre 200 bambini nel mondo soffrono di malnutrizione: fra questi, 162 milioni hanno sviluppato una patologia cronica. A dirlo è il presidente nazionale Unicef Italia, Giacomo Guerrera, che spiega: “Oggi, a livello globale, un bambino su 4 ha ritardi nella crescita, con conseguenze irreversibili su suo sviluppo fisico e intellettivo”.
In occasione della Giornata Mondiale dell’Alimentazione, ha detto Guerrera, è necessario “porre l’attenzione sul tema della malnutrizione infantile, uno dei problemi sanitari prioritari a livello mondiale”. Una malattia che espone i bambini a un rischio maggiore di morte e di sviluppare gravi malattie da comuni infezioni infantili come la polmonite, la diarrea e il morbillo o da malaria o l’Hiv, tanto da rappresentare una causa concomitante nel 45% dei decessi. Oltre 6,3 milioni di bambini, ogni anno non arrivano al loro quinto compleanno”.
La malnutrizione, una delle tante facce della povertà, si può combattere “con misure semplici e a basso costo. La nostra Campagna natalizia 2014 di sensibilizzazione e raccolta fondi sarà focalizzata su questo tema”. Il presidente ha poi ricordato che “la drammatica emergenza di Ebola che ha colpito alcuni paesi dell’Africa occidentale rischia di mettere ulteriormente a repentaglio i bambini malnutriti: il collasso dei servizi sanitari di base non permette di poter fare delle diagnosi tempestive e garantire in tempo le terapie necessarie”.
