
Inauguration of Secondary School in Sogpelcé, Burkina Faso, February 19, 2009
On February 19 2009, Pasquale Pistorio together with local partner, CIAI, represented by its President Valeria Dragone, inaugurated the secondary school in the rural village of Sogpelcé, Burkina Faso. The secondary school (middle school and high school) will serve the surrounding seven villages of the Rural Communes of Thyou and Sabou.
Thousands of villagers attended the ceremony, marked by the cutting of the ribbon by Mr. Pistorio, Valeria Dragone, the Governor of the Center West Region Baworo Seydou Sanou, the Mayor of Thyou Mr. Wendé Issa Gandèma, School Director Paul Syogo, and representative of the Ministry of Secondary Education and Scientific Research, Mr. Roger Tapsoba. At the ceremony were also present Pistorio Foundation Board Member Piero Martinotti, Professor Kulibila Berbard Sam, Prefect of the Ministry of Secondary Education and Scientific Research for the region, and parliament members.

The Secondary school consists of 7 classes, one administration building, one building for library, reading room, workshop and computer lab, separate sanitation facilities, and accommodation for the school director. The school opened last September 2008 with 76 students.
The school, funded by the Pistorio Foundation, was realized in partnership with CIAI and the Rural Commune of Thyou. The Village has agreed to build the roads to access the school from the village and to provide for the good maintenance of the school.
In the following days, Pasquale Pistorio also visited the School of Nibagdo, where the Pistorio Foundation has funded the expansion of the school adding classrooms, hangar, kitchen, and sanitation facilities, and the school of Ouettin. The Pistorio Foundation supports the education of 100 children in these and other 4 rural villages in the region of Boulkiemdé, Burkina Faso. Pasquale Pistorio talked at length with teachers, parent representatives and students, planted three trees, and personally verified the functioning of water pumps.

During his visit, Mr. Pistorio also met, in Ouagadougou, with the Minister for Secondary Education and Scientific Research Professor Joseph Paré.
